Muscat International Airport, the largest project ever to be undertaken in Oman, is nearly ready for take-off!

In partnership with Bechtel Enka Joint Venture (BEJV), SAS International has been involved in advising and training contractors on-site since the new build began in 2011. Over 15 SAS designers have worked on the project to meet the design brief of architects COWI – Larsen & Hill International.

The extraordinary project has required complex designs, bespoke architectural metalwork and a new micro perforation for acoustic control. Over 140,000m² of SAS products have been installed on the project including cargo terminals, concourse, ancillary buildings, escalators and the airport hotel.

The mammoth project has some impressive stats and facts to offer:

  • 97m high, the air traffic control tower is the tallest manmade structure in Oman.
  • There will be 96 check-in counters with the capacity to process 12 million passengers annually.
  • The airport will be capable of landing the new A380 Air Bus.
  • The gross area of the airport building is 345,000m².
