Muscat International Airport, the largest project ever to be undertaken in Oman, is nearly ready for take-off!
In partnership with Bechtel Enka Joint Venture (BEJV), SAS International has been involved in advising and training contractors on-site since the new build began in 2011. Over 15 SAS designers have worked on the project to meet the design brief of architects COWI – Larsen & Hill International.
The extraordinary project has required complex designs, bespoke architectural metalwork and a new micro perforation for acoustic control. Over 140,000m² of SAS products have been installed on the project including cargo terminals, concourse, ancillary buildings, escalators and the airport hotel.
The mammoth project has some impressive stats and facts to offer:
97m high, the air traffic control tower is the tallest manmade structure in Oman.
There will be 96 check-in counters with the capacity to process 12 million passengers annually.
The airport will be capable of landing the new A380 Air Bus.
The gross area of the airport building is 345,000m².
