A stunning addition to England’s oldest city, the new Cambridge Mosque is a landmark building that will be Europe’s first eco-mosque. SAS International designed, manufactured and installed wall panels in various rooms including the main prayer hall, the teaching room and the atrium.
With sustainability and reliance on green energy at the forefront of the design, Cambridge Mosque incorporates features and services that will minimise carbon emission. One of the features includes the integration of roof lights where natural daylight floods through the canopy into the rooms.
Selected by architect, Marks Barfield, SAS International supplied curved wall panelling to line these roof-lights. SAS’s architectural metalwork was the natural choice to meet the buildings sustainability intent. The metal product not only delivers on the aesthetics but helps with achieving the highest performance and sustainability standards.
The curved panels were finished in PPC white which further projected the natural light in the rooms. Encased by striking geometric timber structures, the pairing creates a spectacular environment for those visiting the mosque.
Near completion, this purpose built mosque makes a lasting impression when it comes to both sustainable design and stunning aesthetics.
