SAS International is now a proud Gold partner of the SKArating. SKA is a not-for-profit organisation created by the industry, for the industry; with the aim to aid and improve the fit-out sector. As well as championing environmental good practice, updates to this accreditation will soon include Net Zero alignment, and social and lifecycle impacts within a new ‘triple-bottom line’ model.
“The forward thinking and system change related solutions being developed by the team at SAS are an example of those urgently needed for a sustainable future. We’re delighted with this partnership and hope it enables many in the market and industry to benefit from the outputs.” - Elina Grigoriou, Chair, SKArating Board
The SKArating system currently covers the commercial office, higher education and retail sectors. Drawing from over 50 years of experience delivering and designing in these sectors, SAS are delighted to be an advocate of SKArating which aligns with our Cradle to Cradle certified framework and commitment to ESG.
“SAS will work closely with SKArating and their environmental assessment methodology to promote SKA’s framework for good and best practice in interior design and architecture. Focusing on responsible decision making when selecting products for fit-out, SAS are pleased to be a Gold partner to further propagate thoughtful design supported by evidence and data. With circularity and carbon reduction at the forefront of our industry, SAS will support SKA by sharing knowledge, endorse collaboration and set standards to add value for all stakeholders.” – Abdul Hanid, Business Development Director, SAS International
It is estimated that 11% of UK construction spending is on fit-outs and that buildings may have 30-40 fit-outs during their life cycle. SKArating assesses a project's performance against over 100 Good Practice Measures (GPMs) across eight areas of sustainability: Energy and CO2, Waste, Water, Pollution, Transport, Materials and Wellbeing.
SKArating is different from other tools that assess the environmental impact of whole or refurbished buildings. It is solely designed for interior fit-outs and interior refurbishments. SKA is also assessor-centric rather than institution centric, and it is sector specific - tailored to products and behaviour benchmarks where it matters most. It has, and always will be, developed and steered with designers, contractors, corporate occupiers, managing agents and consultants.
