From the materials to the manufacturing of our products, SAS International are committed to protecting and preserving the environment.
According to The Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), the construction industry accounts for 60% of all materials used, creates 33% of waste and generates 45% of all CO2 emissions in the UK. In addition, 32% of landfill waste is generated from the construction industry and the demolition of buildings, as a result we are dedicated to the recycling of our products. By doing so, we can reduce material waste and carbon emissions, this both adheres to government legislation and sustains the environment.
A considerable amount of SAS grid, suspended tiles and panel ceiling systems are manufactured using steel. The recycled content of our steel ceiling systems varies from 20-25% subject to availability of materials within the global market at time of purchase. This can be further broken down into 18% pre-consumer and 6% post-consumer. Steel is the world’s most recycled metal and can be recycled indefinitely, making it a near perfect sustainable material. In 2015, an estimated 585 million tonnes of steel were recycled. This is the equivalent of 220 Eiffel towers being recycled every day.
Aluminium is also used widely within the manufacture of SAS products making up an extensive array of products, from ceilings to wall panels. The recycling of this metal is both economically and environmentally effective, as recycling requires only 5% of the energy used to make primary aluminium. The aluminium used for our products consists of approximately 25% of pre-consumer recycled aluminium.
