The property that was once the home to the publishing company that gave us Agatha Christie’s numerous works has undergone a rewrite.
Enhancing the space’s wellbeing benefits for future occupants was a priority for Architects Mower and Company. To do this, maximising on space and light in the ground floor, city centre office was a must.
Specifying SAS International’s SAS710 metal linear ceiling allowed for the functional suggestion of a social, open plan working space bordered by a corridor. The ceiling above the work area uses suspended rafts to mirror the desks that will eventually be below, while SAS710 guides the eye down the sides.
In this way, the need to actually divide the room was foregone, allowing light and air to move uninterrupted. A shallower ceiling void, reduced from 3760mm to 2920mm, has also allowed for a 25% increase in daylight.
SAS710 was devised especially for corridors and narrow spaces between ceiling features. It maintains practical, easy access to new, slimline services, hidden in the black painted recesses, through demountable profiles.
Ed Fagan, Sales Representative at SAS who advised on the project, explained: “The refurbishment project was intended to give a potential new tenant a not-totally-blank canvas to work with.
“SAS710 comprises a steel rolled profile which simply hooks onto the carrier via a pre-punched suspension system. Easy access to services is essential to not interrupt day-to-day use of the space. SAS710 delivers this practically and efficiently.”
Finished in RAL9002 Grey White, the overall effect is an eye-opening one of clean, bright, modern architecture.
Completed in the summer of 2019, the project was turned around quickly and efficiently, providing an eventual tenant with a subtly mapped out space.
