A variety of architectural metalwork was specified with steel tunnel lining panels, cladding and grey steel hinged light boxes which were installed on the Wirral line platform and trackside area. These were designed to allow access to the services behind for essential on-going maintenance.
Column casings and a bespoke SAS ceiling system incorporating existing light fitting were specified for the station platform access routes and escalators. The ceilings system has been designed with 30mm open joints to balance pressure from the train piston effect from the Northern line.
The architectural metalwork provides a durable solution which has to handle increased crowd pressure in these busy environments. These metal solutions have a life-span in excess of 25 years and provide an easy to clean option whilst allowing ease of access to services without damage to the material.
Minimal disruption of the general public at the installation stage was of the utmost importance with night time working schedules undertaken to avoid closing the stations.
SAS Project Management worked closely with the architects and main contractor to coordinate the full range of SAS International products and the supply and integration of third party products.
