Tottenham Court Road

Bounded by the retail vibrancy of Oxford Street, the lights of theatre and the atmosphere of Soho, TFL have positioned Crossrail's new Tottenham Court Road Station in the heart of London's West End. Visitors and commuters will enjoy how the Elizabeth Line can seamlessly enhance their journey across the capital.

Architect, Hawkins/Brown invited SAS to collaborate with them on the design of the metal ceiling requirement in the station. Daily passenger volumes are predicted to increase to 200,000, as such Class A acoustic treatment was a high priority to mitigate increased levels of noise. SAS provided perforated stainless-steel and bright white ceiling panels, to achieve the acoustic requirement and to ensure the PAVA operated efficiently throughout the station.

Described by the Crossrail team as “dark and cinematic, reflecting the nocturnal economies that characterise the area”. The use of SAS acoustic stainless-steel ceilings provides a raw contrast against the red and black wall glazing in this futuristic aesthetic.

Working for principal contractor Laing O'Rourke, SAS partnered with them harmoniously and efficiently to ensure that the overall objectives of the project were met. SAS were vigorous in complying with Crossrail's security, safety and design life requirements.

The addition of the Elizabeth Line Station to Tottenham Court Road has transformed the area and will add value for visitors and commuters alike. Equally the world class station will contribute to social value and the urban realm.
